Tips for Proper Newborn Care

Tips for Newborn Care

Bringing a baby home can be very exciting and rewarding, but it can also be a little intimidating. The following are a few tips to help.

Let It Go

Over the next several weeks, your baby is going to need you more than your dishes, your laundry, or any other task. It might be difficult to ignore those things for a while, but it’s better to let them go and lavish your newborn with the attention they deserve. And don’t forget to sleep when they do, as this may be the only rest you get for a while.

Keep Your Hands Clean

Babies haven’t had time to strengthen their immunity, so any germs can easily make them sick. Before you touch your baby, be sure your hands are clean. Ensure that anyone else who holds them washes their hands, as well.

Support and Secure Your Newborn At All Times

Newborns’ bodies are not yet able to support their weight, so their heads, spines, and the rest of their bodies can easily be damaged. Whether you’re holding your baby or putting them in their car seat, be sure they are properly supported and secure.

Prepare Your Supplies

One of the best things you can do for yourself, other family members, and your baby are to have supplies set up throughout the home. Have a basket or container full of diapers, wipes, burp cloths, and any other supplies you need in various rooms, such as your living room, kitchen, and bedroom. This can prevent you from having to hunt down what you need and make it easier to take care of your little.
